Councillor Lyn Morgan, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and the council’s Older Person’s Champion said: “We were delighted with the response to our first recruitment drive and now we want to make the new team even bigger so that we can support our communities even more.

“So if you are cool, calm and collected, especially in an emergency and if you passionate about the rights of older or disabled people to live independently, then this could be the job for you.

Councillor Morgan added: “This team complements the hard work already undertaken by the established network of home care workers who we know provide an outstanding service. However, Mobile Response Care Workers work right across the county borough providing this new kind of rapid and flexible support.

“This new team offers very important support within the community and I’m delighted that despite the current economic climate, Bridgend County Borough Council continues to offer such exciting new job opportunities. I’d encourage anyone who is interested to find out more.”

The team offers varied shifts to provide rapid assistance and care.

It provides a 24 hour service, seven days a week and team members are given stand-by and call-out allowances and a duty vehicle, so a full driving licence is essential.

The team is supported through the use of ‘Telecare’ technology which uses advanced electronic sensors to provide improved home safety and reassurance to residents who need it, and extra peace of mind for carers.

It means unnecessary hospital admissions can be reduced and people in hospital beds will be able to return safely to their own homes sooner.

Debbie Trindle, aged 50, from Porthcawl, joined the team after this year’s first recruitment drive. She has previously worked as a home care worker for BCBC, for the Prison Service, as a lifeguard and also, as a casino worker in South Africa, to name but a few.

Debbie said: ‘Working in the community as part of a team is both varied and exciting. People and their circumstances change on a daily basis, so being able to adapt and use your own initiative as a mobile response worker, is an essential part of the job.

“We all bring different strengths to the post and sharing these strengths, benefits the whole team. In return, we can make a difference to those who need our service. Making a difference and helping people is what it’s all about.”
