Police hunt Brackla cat poisoner PDF Print E-mail
Written by Richard Winters
Police in South Wales have launched an investigation after eight cats in the same street died from anti-freeze poisoning. Residents in Underwood Place in Bridgend say that the deaths have been occurring for several weeks and suspect that the sweet, toxic substance is being put out for their pets deliberately. Two families have lost two cats each and four more have lost one pet. The animals typically died of kidney failure after days of suffering.

"It is terrible to see your pet die a painful death," said Laura Wehko, 26, whose cat Chilli died of the poison last month. This weekend her other cat, Kiwi, became the latest victim."

"The first few cats died in a spate a few weeks ago and then it stopped, but now it is happening again," Ms Wehko added.

Gail Povey, 30, told The Sun that she was afraid to let her cat Minty out of the house after her three-year-old cat Horace, Minty's brother, died last month. He had to be put down by the vet after spending two weeks in agony.

It was several weeks before each of the neighbours realised that their pet's death was part of a pattern. When vets confirmed that the animals had died of kidney failure they called in the RSPCA and the police.

South Wales Police said last night that the force was investigating.
